We stayed for one night while visiting the Bowood House and Gardens, which was a short drive away. The room offered decent value and was in a quiet neighborhood, making it a nice retreat after exploring. Gwyneth, the host, was welcoming and her dog Daisy added a bit of charm to our stay. The breakfast was a highlight, freshly cooked and quite tasty, which set us up nicely for the day ahead.

The garden looked overgrown, resembling a wildlife sanctuary more than a manicured space. There were several maintenance issues—in particular, the shower control and front door handle were problematic. finding eggshell in a poached egg during breakfast was off-putting, despite the host's intentions.

what an experience! I was horrified to find mouldy jam at breakfast and equally atrocious shampoo that resembled something from a horror show. I expected a lovely welcome gift for such a ‘luxurious’ stay, but alas, nothing was forthcoming. It almost led me to a good review, but I just couldn’t let it pass. Disgraceful!

Calne charm with a dash of doggo 🐶
Super lekker brekkie cooked by Gwyneth, proper full English that hits the spot, ya know? Plus, the room was cozy and had this homey vibe with mismatched furniture that just felt welcoming. And then there's Daisy the dog—such a chommie!
Only downside, the room is a bit old school—like, charming but needs a lil TLC.

We loved the homely atmosphere and the cozy decorations throughout the property. The host was exceptionally friendly and shared her extensive knowledge of the area, making our stay even more enjoyable. The breakfast options were diverse and delicious, prepared with fresh, local ingredients, which truly set us up for our day of exploration.
The parking situation was a bit limited, making it tricky at times.

The quiet location made for a peaceful stay, with easy access to the town. Breakfast offerings included fresh strawberries and a proper full English, alongside Gwyneth’s homemade jam. While the room was cozy and equipped with everything needed for comfort, the garden's overgrown look detracted from the overall atmosphere.

Cozy stay with a warm welcome!
Gwyneth and her pup Daisy made me feel right at home! My room was super clean and comfy, and having fresh milk for my tea was a lovely surprise. Breakfast was the real deal with local eggs. The coffee was on point. Only bummer was the garden could use a bit of love.
